Sofia Boy`s Choir - Sofia, Bulgaria

 

The Sofia Boy's Choir at the community center "Tzar Boris III - 1928" is the first boy's choir in Bulgaria, founded in 1968. Since its establishment up to 1989 it was conducted by Lilyana Todorova. Since 1989 the choir`s conductor has been Prof. Dr. Adriana Blagoeva. Under her leadership the choir evolves significant concert and recording activity in the country and abroad and has won many prestigious awards.

 

The Christmas and Easter concerts of the ensemble are traditional, as well as the participation in several national music forums.

 

The choir`s repertoire is very wide. Many bulgarian composers are writing songs especially for the ensemble. Since 1993 the ensemble released nine CDs and participated in other eight CDs in collaboration with other artists.

 

Since 1993 the Sofia Boys` Choir with conductor Prof. Adriana Blagoeva has been awarded one Grand Prix, five First and five Second prizes from seven international choral competitions.

 

On 1st November 1997 A. Blagoeva establishes additional Youth Formation, consisting solely of former members of the boy's ensemble.

 

The Sofia Boys` Choir has been awarded the Silver, Golden and twice the Crystal Lyre of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers; twice the "Golden Quill" award; Golden Plaque of the Bulgarian Choral Union; Honorable Plaque of the Ministry of Culture; Honorable Plaque of the Union of the Bulgarian Composers and special certificates from the Sofia Capital Municipality for contribution to Bulgarian culture, Honorable Plaque of the vice-president Mrs. Margarita Popova. The ensemble is a winner of the prestigious prize of the Bulgarian National Radio "Musician of the Year for 2002" in the category "Artistic activity."

 

The Sofia Boys` Choir has performed with great success in Russia, Serbia, Greece, Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Moldova, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Belgium, Turkey and Japan.

 

Adriana Blagoeva has been awarded the Special prize for Conductors from the International Choir Competition in Bolzano, Italy. Besides her active conducting work she is also Professor of choral conducting and Dean of Theory, Composition and Conducting Department at the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”in Sofia, PhD in musicology and musical art.
