Alexander Kochkov
Conductor of Bodra Smyana Choir
Alexander Kochkov is born in Sofia. He has been involved in music since the age of 8. He graduated from the "Elementary School Pedagogy" major at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in 1990. He worked as a teacher. In 1996, he graduated from the "Pancho Vladigerov" State Music Academy with a major in "Choir Conducting" in the class of Professor Georgi Robev. He worked as a choir master and conductor of various choir formations. From 2002 to 2007, he was the conductor of the "Accent" Chamber Choir, with which he participated and won awards at international festivals and competitions. He worked with prominent conductors such as Emil Tabakov, Nikola Lipov, Georgi Robev, Lorin Maazel, Ivan Fischer. He participated in the master classes of Erwin Ortner and Andreas Herrmann.
Since 1997, he has been working at the National Children's Palace, initially leading various children's ensembles and teaching piano, and since 2010 he has been the conductor of the Bodra Smyana choir. Under his direction, the choir participated in the staging of "Bohemia" at the Sofia Opera, in concerts together with the "Pioner" Philharmonic, in Orthodox music festivals, in the "New Bulgarian Music' 2012" review. In the same year, he participated with spectacular success in the performance of "Carmina Burana" together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio conducted by Emil Tabakov.
