ANIMATO Choir, Mytilene, Greece

Established in January 2009, Animato Choir is an amateur non-auditioned mixed choir, based in Mytilene, the capital city of Lesvos island. Founded and directed by Antonis Ververis, the choir performs a wide variety of music, both sacred and secular, from early 16th century to present day. In the nine years of its existence, the choir has performed at various venues and places of historical interest in Greece, Italy and Turkey, like the Archaic Sanctuary of Apollo in Klopedi, the church of Saint Trovaso in Venice and the Church of Taxiarchis in Ayvalik.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 the choir organized three summer workshops for choral conductors and singers with Dr. Therees Hibbard of St. Olaf College, USA. Over the years, Animato has grown to include also a Children’s Choir, followed by its preparatory Junior Choir, and most recently the Animato Wind Band. Animato Choir operates on an entirely voluntary basis.
